First of all, I consider myself to be pretty saavy when it comes to technology, but I had a hard time figuring out how to "follow" people. Maybe I was just super tired from the insane week, maybe the directions weren't all that clear, I don't know. Anyway, I think I've got it figured out. When I tried to search for people, though, I couldn't find anyone!
I honestly don't see any use in Twitter for KRL. There are a couple of problems that come to mind with using Twitter in terms of KRL business. One is that each person would have to sign up for a Twitter account to participate. Another is that people would have to be consistently connected to their method of chosen delivery. Some people can barely keep up with work and personal e-mails and don't want to be bothered to add yet another tech thing into their lives.
When I send updates to my friends and family, it takes me more than 140 characters. This just seems like another useless program that you have to remember to login to, or have instant/constant access to really get any use out of it. Maybe it would be helpful for people who are tied to their cell phones or IMs, or find stupid updates from their friends amusing, but I am not one of those.

Sites 4 Students
Ohhhh how I would have *loved* to have access to these sites eleven years ago when I was in college! Cheaper text books and a place to store my class notes?!?! Well, I'm still paying off my student loans to the government, and I'm far too lazy to return to school to go beyond my Bachelor's degree, so for now I will just be happy for today's students.
So I created an account with Stikkit. I originally thought the idea sounded pretty neat. When I dove into it, though, I became indifferent. It would be a great thing for people who want to access their to-do lists, contacts, appt. stuff, etc. in one location. However, for me ... it would just be another thing to have to remember to login to the account to be reminded of things ... I would need a sticky note to remind myself to login to Stikkit! I think I prefer to write myself actual sticky notes and put them in my pocket -- there's something real about feeling that piece of paper in my pocket throughout the day as it reminds me of important things to do or remember.
I briefly explored WriteBoard and thought "HOW COOL!" I could imagine so many possibilities for this application. Within KRL, drafts of forms, policies, procedures, manuals, and brochures are just a few items that came to mind that could be shared among a group of people. Can you imagine how much time could be saved?! People could work on documents when convenient from any location. You would never have to worry about accidentally clicking "save" rather than "save as" of a newer version of the document. You could fix people's grammar and spelling errors and take all the credit LOL Freaking GENIUS =)

facebook module
Well, I set up a facebook account a short while ago but never really did anything with it. It wasn't as "fun" or "creative" (in my eyes) as MySpace. I couldn't add cool backgrounds or music that I liked.
I think that the article by Meredith Farkas had some interesting points, namely that libraries shouldn't make these pages just because it's the cool thing to do, but to make them if they're going to use them for some purpose.
I suppose there are some ways for libraries to use MySpace or Facebook to reach the populations (teens, young adults) who are already using these services. I think it would be a great way to broadcast the different teen events going on at our local branches and maybe generate more "buzz" among the teens who attend. For those registered voters over eighteen years old, KRL could explain more about our levy lid lift, political action committee, citizen action committee, etc. It might also be helpful to become "friends" with other libraries who could share what works for them in engaging the public to meet patron needs.

Wikis
For the first part of the wiki weeks, I began by reading more about them and watching the KRL tutorial screencase. Nice job, Jeannie!!
At first, the only experience I had with wikis was wikipedia and I thought how weird they seemed that anyone could edit the content at any time. I think what concerned me was that people were likely only going to wikipedia for their research and what if some doofus put bogus information in there?!
So, I began my experience by exploring the KRL wiki and I added a comment in the sandbox. I looked at the Stevens County wiki. I thought one neat feature was all the information about local businesses, restaurants, shopping, etc. that you could find in one place by several contributors. I could begin to see a wiki being a useful tool for KRL. I think it would be great for any of us to use, whether by department or branch, because we all have a wealth of information to share in many subjects.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
I must admit that I was a little reluctant to add some content to areas other than the fake branch or the sandbox, only because the other parts seemed so "official" in nature!! I peeked into some of the areas (such as SW Circulation or Paging). I was surprised that there wasn't more done on the wiki pages ... could it be that I'm not the only person behind on my krl2pt0 assignments?! :-) Perhaps there is more content on some of the other branches.
I think the calendar feature that SW Circulation showed was really cool -- I could imagine something like that being really valuable for the Training Calendar. Then, anyone with web access could view it. People could add all sorts of information related to Training all over the state, online, in our branches, etc.
I made a quick addition to one of the pages. All by myself! :-)
I think that a wiki would be easy to "manage" on a smaller scale, such as internally. I'm just thinking that if you had a wiki that was wide open to the public, couldn't it get a bit chaotic? It seems like it would be a lot of work to maintain for accuracy or inappropriate content.

Catching up (or trying to, anyway)
Eeeks, I cannot believe a whole month has passed and I haven't had time to blog!!!!! Not that anyone was reading my blog or commenting or anything
(boo hoo hoo cry whine sniff sniff boo hoo hoo)
I haven't found much time to do any of my krl2pt0 activities either. Time to catch up before Feb. 14th!
One interesting tidbit ............ remember waaaayyyy back on the posting for Flickr when I did a search for Bedlington Terriers? Well, I had found someone w/ pics in the NW and had e-mailed them through Flickr, not knowing if I would ever get a response. But I did!! A few weeks later, I received an e-mail from the person in Seattle who has a Bedlington also. The person said they would love to get together for a doggy play date when the weather gets better. YAY!

Let's put the FUN in dysfunctional!!!!
I read this in Saturday's Kitsap Sun newspaper. The picture that accompanied the story was great! I love it. Now it's made front page of MSN.com. How funny! Our little corner of the world in Bremerton, WA...

In addition, here is a spin on the 12 days song, from my fave radio station KISW:

Week 9 - YouTube
Oh my ... YouTube is *way* too addictive!!! And a little bit stupid ... when I see the amount of useless crap that people post!
I searched for bookcart drill team and had NO idea that people did those sorts of things! I then turned my search into something that interests me more, Bedlington Terriers. There were tons of cute, short video clips of people's dogs. There were also some neat videos that were very creative with music, slideshow features and graphics -- this is something where I would like to figure out how the people did this.
As part of this post, I embedded two clips I found on YouTube as part of this week's "extra" assignments. One is a song about Terriers and I think it's funny:
How I came across the second one (a reinacted scene from "The Exorcist") is beyond me but I was laughing hysterically, so I thought what better place to share it than on my work-related blog LOL
Here's my other "extra" assignment of including a link to a library-related video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mZHoHaAYHq8
Conan ROCKS!!!
